• MATTE ONYX: the mountain modern color of choice, a deep black stain with a hint of visible wood grain.
• RUSTIC MOCHA: a rich traditional mocha finish with a hint of red undertones.

We don't trace trail maps. We study mountains.
Every Torched Peaks design begins with our SlopeTheory™ process—up to 40 hours of research, design, and refinement for a single mountain. We study satellite imagery, topography, resort maps, photos, videos, and local knowledge to acquaint ourselves with the mountain and understand what makes it distinctive.
We examine the actual width, shape, and pitch of ski runs, how chairlifts follow the terrain, and the landmarks and hidden details that give each resort its character. Photos and videos are especially valuable for understanding how popular runs and terrain are actually experienced—not simply how they appear on a traditional trail map.
Then we add some personality. Skier and snowboarder icons highlight notable groomers, mogul runs, glades, terrain parks, and race trails, while wildlife and other details are chosen to reflect species and features native to the region. And hidden somewhere in every map is a small Torched Peaks Yeti—our signature Easter egg.
Backed by more than 15 years of ski resort industry experience, that research is translated into original artwork designed to feel true to the mountain—not simply reproduce its trail map.
This is SlopeTheory™—our approach to understanding a mountain before we turn it into art.
Built in layers. Made to be explored.
Our AlpineStrata™ Inlay process transforms the mountain into 6–10 precision-cut layers of natural wood, with hundreds of individual pieces assembled by hand to create genuine physical depth and relief.
Rather than printing or etching ski trails onto one surface, each white trail is individually cut and recessed into the mountain as a separate wood inlay. This mirrors the mountain itself—ski trails cut through the terrain while the wooded areas between them remain physically raised. Additional layers build the surrounding terrain, while lakes, rivers, lifts, landmarks, and other mountain details are carefully integrated into the composition.
The result is a mountain built from the inside out—layer by layer, piece by piece—with depth, texture, contrast, and detail that change as light moves across the artwork.
This is AlpineStrata™ Inlay—our most intricate expression of dimensional mountain art.

Wooden Ski Map FAQs.
A 3D ski resort map is a form of mountain-inspired wall art that transforms ski destinations into visual artwork for the home or cabin. At Torched Peaks, our ski wall art is handcrafted in layered wood to create a dimensional 3D interpretation of your favorite mountains—unlike flat posters or prints. Learn more about how our ski maps are made
Since 2015, our artists have been designing original 3D wood ski maps, pioneered by our founder, with a focus on capturing the character of each mountain.
Absolutely! Wooden ski maps make an excellent gift for skiers and snowboarders. They are especially popular for weddings, anniversaries, housewarmings, and milestone celebrations because they combine personal meaning with mountain-inspired design.

Ski resort wall art is most often displayed in ski cabins, mountain homes, living rooms, and offices where it can stand out as a focal point. These 3D wooden ski maps are designed as statement pieces—bringing the character, energy, and memories of a favorite mountain into the spaces people live and gather every day.
The right size depends on your space and the statement you want to make. Larger pieces create a bold focal point—ideal for living rooms, fireplaces, and open walls—while smaller sizes offer a more subtle presence, perfect for gallery walls, accents, or gifting.
Our largest maps measure up to 40" x 50", creating a true statement piece, while smaller sizes like 16" x 19" are often chosen for gifts and more intimate spaces. Every size includes the same artwork, with no reduction in intricacy, ensuring each piece preserves the detail, depth, and character of the mountain.
After searching our site, please reach out to us if you don't see your favorite mountain listed... there's a good chance we have it or we can create it from scratch.
All of our products are designed on the east shore of Lake Tahoe and are 100% made in the USA.
Our ski trail maps begin with SlopeTheory™—our detailed research, design, and refinement process that can require up to 40 hours for a single mountain. We analyze trail maps, Google Earth and satellite imagery, topography, local knowledge, hidden gems, iconic runs, and the unique character of each resort before refining the artwork through multiple design iterations and prototypes. Google Earth and terrain data help us study the actual width, shape, and pitch of ski runs, as well as the path of chairlifts across changing mountain contours. Our lead designer's extensive experience in ski resort operations and trail design helps guide how that research is interpreted. Skier and snowboarder icons, wildlife, and other artistic details are also incorporated to give each design warmth, personality, and a stronger sense of place.
Each map in this collection is precision-crafted using our AlpineStrata™ Inlay process, with 6–10 layers of natural wood and up to 100 laser-cut and hand-assembled inlays forming the ski trail network. Ski runs are inlaid into the layered structure using a subtractive process, creating greater depth, realism, and dimensional clarity. This is our signature 3D style—pioneered by Torched Peaks when we introduced the original handcrafted wood ski map concept in 2015.
The result is a ski map designed to capture far more than trail placement alone—the terrain, details, hidden character, and mountain experience that make each resort distinctive.
Our handcrafted ski trail maps are designed through our SlopeTheory™ process to capture the unique character and layout of each mountain in exceptional detail. Most maps include ski trails, chairlifts, gondolas, lodges, terrain parks, base areas, and surrounding landmarks such as lakes, rivers, mountain peaks, resort villages, and state or national parks.
Where appropriate, lakes and rivers may be created with separate blue wood inlays, adding another layer of color and dimension to the landscape. Some maps also include hiking trails, popular fishing areas, and other mountain-specific features, brought to life with hiker, fisherman, skier, snowboarder, and other carefully placed icons.
Many maps also feature snowcats, snowmaking elements, wildlife, and operational details that help bring each resort to life.
Because our team has real-world ski industry experience and a deep passion for mountain culture, we go beyond the traditional trail map to create artwork that feels immersive, thoughtful, and true to the mountain.
Our SlopeTheory™ design philosophy goes far beyond accurate trail placement. Rather than simply tracing a resort's published trail map, we use Google Earth, satellite imagery, and topographic research to study the actual mountain. This allows us to more accurately capture the width, shape, and pitch of ski runs, along with chairlift lines that follow the natural contours and elevation changes of the terrain.
We also carefully research the personality of every resort, incorporating local knowledge, iconic runs, hidden gems, and artistic details that reflect what makes each mountain memorable. Skier and snowboarder icons may highlight celebrated groomers, mogul runs, terrain parks, glades, or race courses, while wildlife and mountain-inspired artwork are thoughtfully chosen to reflect species and landscapes native to the region.
Rather than creating a piece of wall décor, our goal is to capture the feeling of returning to your favorite mountain. Every artistic decision is intentional, helping transform a familiar ski resort into heirloom-quality artwork that celebrates the memories, traditions, and experiences that make people come back year after year.
Since introducing the original handcrafted wood ski map concept in 2015, Torched Peaks has remained committed to creating ski resort art that's as meaningful as the mountains themselves.
Torched Peaks is a passionate group of skiers and snowboarders creating handcrafted 3D wood ski resort maps inspired by a life lived on snow and a deep love for the mountains. Each piece reflects a deep connection to skiing—the fire, passion, and energy that comes from first tracks, sun-drenched powder days, and the feeling of being back on snow.
We are the original wood ski map artists, dedicated to designing maps that are as unique as the mountains themselves. TheMtnFactory™ is the creative workshop behind Torched Peaks—where new ideas, materials, and techniques are explored and developed. Over the years, our pieces have been featured in ski resorts and hotels, boutique retailers, and design showrooms across North America, and collected by skiers, snowboarders, and professionals who share that same connection to the mountains.
Since introducing the original handcrafted wood ski map concept in 2015, we've remained committed to creating heirloom-quality artwork inspired by the mountains that shape our lives.
Traditional ski posters are printed wall art, while our maps are intricately carved art pieces crafted out of 6-10 layers of natural wood.
